The Best Way To Start Yoga As A Beginner

After nearly 15 years of experience, we’ve found that the best way for a beginner to start practicing yoga is in a dedicated beginners class. When you take the time to learn how to breath properly, and how to do the most common poses in a way that suits your body, you’ll not only receive more benefit from your practice, but you’ll also reduce your risk of strain and injury because you’ll know how to adapt the practice for your unique needs, right from the start.

In a specific beginners class, you’ll be surrounded by like minded students, who are all starting from scratch, just like you. This fosters a non-competitive, community environment where no questions are off limits. Taking an “in person” beginners yoga class sets you up with a solid foundation so that you can continue to practice for years to come!

Our beginners classes run on:

  • Wednesday at 7:15pm and

  • Saturday from 10-11am

They are held at our lovely yoga studio at 277 Peel Street, Tamworth, NSW (above Markers Bakery).

Our studio is fully equipped with mats and props, so the only thing you need to bring is yourself.

You can expect to be welcomed into a small group, of no more than 10 students. During the class you will learn about and practice breathing exercises, meditation and physical movement. At the end of each session there will be a short relaxation, followed by an optional Q&Q.

Some Common Questions About Beginners Yoga

  • While yoga does increase flexibility, you do not need to be flexible to start. Our beginners class will teach you exactly how to adapt the poses to suit your body, touching your toes is NOT a prerequisite.

  • Our students range from age 7, to over 70. We pride ourselves in being a community-oriented studio, where all are welcome. Our beginners class is suitable as long as you are comfortable to get up and down from the floor. Also, please note, we are located up about 15 steps above street level. If you’d like to practice yoga, but getting up or down to the floor is a challenge, please ask about our private yoga lessons.

  • Absolutely. No prior yoga experience is necessary.

  • We suggest starting yoga with a class 1 x week. However, after several weeks, you will get the most benefit from a yoga practice if you can come 2-3 x per week.

  • We strongly recommend you start with our beginners class as it will prepare you to attend any of the classes on our timetable. However, our yin and restorative classes are suitable for beginners.

  • Of course. If you have questions, or would like more information about the course, please contact us on hello@tamworthyoga.com or 0423 424 898
